A Simplified Four Step Process

Step 1
A Golftek face tape decal is applied to the face of the club to be measured. Position lower edge of the decal exactly in line with the bottom clubface groove or the lower edge of the clubface.

Step 2
The test ball is placed on a hitting mat or tee so that the groove is perpendicular, or at a right angle to the hitting surface and aligned with the target line. If necessary, the slotted plastic alignment aid can be used to help properly orient the ball. Point the arrow at your target; then, looking directly down on the ball, align the groove with the target line. Remove the alignment aid before hitting the ball.

Step 3
The grooved test ball leaves a distinctive vertical imprint line on the face tape during impact.

Step 4
The amount of lie angle adjustment needed is easy to measure. Draw a line through the center of the lie angle mark on the tape so that it intersects both the upper and lower line of 2 degree angle marks. Count the number of marks between the two points of intersection to determine the exact angle.
